Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Any imperfection in the subfloor bumps, dips, moisture, or movement will telegraph through your new flooring over time. Poor prep causes tiles to lift, adhesive to fail, and floors to crack or creak. Getting the prep right the first time prevents expensive remedial work later.
Plyboarding involves screwing and gluing sheets of 6mm or 9mm structural plywood over an existing timber floor. It bridges gaps between floorboards, adds rigidity, and provides a flat, stable surface for LVT or vinyl sheet. It's required on virtually all timber subfloors.
A DPM (Damp-Proof Membrane) is a liquid or sheet barrier applied to concrete subfloors to prevent rising moisture from reaching your flooring. Moisture is the leading cause of adhesive failure in vinyl and LVT. We test for moisture before every installation.
We don't offer floor preparation as optional it's part of every LVT and vinyl installation we carry out. Skipping prep would compromise the finish and the longevity of the floor, and we're not willing to put our name to that.
Preparation for a typical room (20–30 m²) takes a few hours to one day depending on the condition of the substrate and the products used. Self-levelling compound requires a curing period before flooring can be laid on top.
